How to Book SGR Train Online
You can book a train physically by visiting the SGR terminus near you, or use the USSD code *639# and follow the prompts. But, if you want to book SGR Train Online via the website, follow the following simple steps:
- Visit Kenya Railways official website : krc.co.ke/
- On the header menu, click the Book Train button which will take you to the Madaraka Express SGR Online booking page page: metickets.krc.co.ke/
- Select the Travel Details : Train Type, the From for the town you’re coming from or the Terminus near you and To for destination or Terminus near the destination, then the Departure Date.
There are three Train Types : InterCounty, Express, and Suswa train. The latter is for tranversing Nairobi only. - Choose your preferred travelling class between the Economy and First Class.
Economy class is affordable for everyone, and less comfy compared to First Class, but still a great deal. - When you click Next, you will be required to enter your details, which include Full Name, and Identification Card Number.
The ID is required during rescheduling or cancellation incase you change your mind. You only need the ID, ticket number and copy of ID and visit the nearest Terminus for that. - Proceed to payment via Mpesa, Airtel Money or Card. After making payment, the confimation message will have an account number which is required during the day of travelling.
- On the departure date, arrive one hour before the train departure. You must have noted the train departure during the process above which may be either 8.00 AM, 3.00 PM or 9:00 PM. At the terminus, print the receipt by entering the account number from your payment confirmation message. Kindly note that the account number is the the booking reference number that processes the ticket at the terminus self-service kiosks or ticket counter.

To book SGR (Madaraka Express) tickets using USSD code *639#, follow these steps:
- Dial *639# on your Safaricom mobile phone.
- Select the desired language (English or Swahili) from the options provided.
- Choose the “Book Ticket” option from the menu.
- Follow the on-screen prompts to enter the necessary information, such as the train type (Express or Inter-County), starting station, destination, travel date, and coach type.
- Enter passenger details, including full names, ID/passport numbers, and contact information.
